What your body composition says about your health

What the MetaScan body composition says about your health.

You may know from some of my previous posts that I am a Certified MetaScan Practitioner.

The MetaScan is a body composition tool and report that I use in clinic and has been such an amazing motivating tool to use for a number of reasons.

Why body composition matters

We know of course that New Zealand has a huge problem with metabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, but also in clinic I come across PCOS, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and un-diagnosed metabolic disease (people who don't know their insulin is already out of range).

For this scenario the MetaScan is typically used at each appointment to track changes in body fat but also cellular health. Making sure that the nutrition and exercise is actually working for the ultimate health goal.

But did you know that it can also be used for those who are wanting gain muscle (weekend warriors etc)? The MetaScan can help ensure that the diet (alongside exercise) is actually helping to support this specific health goal.

The MetaScan report helps to give an understanding on these key areas rather than just focusing on what you currently weigh.

Why the number on the scale is not enough

Have you ever felt completely disheartened when you step on the scale and it seems that all that hard work you have been doing through food and exercise seems to show not much of a change?

I cant tell you how many times I have had urgent texts coming through like "help! no weight loss this week! " or "I cant come in, no point! no change in weight".

You see the number on the scales do not give you enough information about how you are reaching your health goals. How do you know if you are losing fat, fluid or muscle? And what is the state of your cellular health?

The MetaScan is able to look at these key areas and give you more information about how you are reaching your health goals and the impact it is having on your body.

When used on a regular basis the MetaScan is able to give exact details on the changes for specific health goals.

For example if someone is wanting to gain more muscle, over time the MeteScan will show the exact changes in dry lean muscle weight.

If someone is wanting to lose fat, over time the MetaScan will show exact numbers on how much has been lost since the first visit.

If someone is concerned about excess fluid, (usually associated with a health condition) then this too will show up in the report.

Example of MetaScan report

Of course all of this information is valuable and helps to keep people motivated towards reaching their health goals. Particularly if the scales don't shift, because but fat has been lost and muscle gained.

Clients smile with relief when they can see that actually yes the hard work is paying off!

But what I love is when I see cellular markers shift towards being more positive! The MetaScan is able to show if the lifestyle changes that person has made is impacting upon health in a positive way. And for me this is a way of showing them that these changes are laying the foundation for healthy ageing, which is something that I am very passionate about.
